Bintou, Operations Manager
What’s your role at Sowen, and what does it involve?
I joined the Sowen team as Head of Operations. My role is to plan, coordinate, and ensure that each project runs smoothly while meeting deadlines, staying within budget, and hitting our goals. I’m also responsible for maintaining clear communication between all stakeholders, Sowen teams, clients, contractors, and more.
What did you do before this job?
After earning a four-year degree in spatial design, I spent five years as a Project Manager for a design & consulting firm specializing in framework agreement projects for major companies like SNCF, Orange, and Bouygues Immobilier. I then spent two years as a Project Manager at a general contractor, where I deepened my technical, budgeting, and operational knowledge, especially in construction site supervision.
What’s a typical day like, and what skills does your job require?
To do this job well, you need to be agile and adaptable, able to juggle the design phase, client relationships, site supervision, and coordination with various partners.
A typical day for a Head of Operations might start with a site meeting to check on progress, continue with some design time at the office, and wrap up with a client meeting. And that’s just one day, on several different projects! That’s why agility is key. 👷♀️
Why did you choose to join Sowen?
First, because the projects are inspiring and truly tailored to each client. And also because of the company’s mindset, it resonated with me from the start, and I love being part of it today. 💚
If you had to describe life at Sowen in 3 words?
Adventure, challenge & kindness 🙏
Is there a project at Sowen that’s left a mark on you?
Yes, a hospitality-focused project I’m currently working on, which is very different from the ones I usually handle. The client is fantastic and has entrusted us with everything from concept to construction. I can’t wait to see the final result!
Your passions ?
Basketball and reading 🏀📖
A designer or design piece you love or find inspiring?
The “Flat Table” by Japanese designer Jo Nagasaka for Schemata Architects. A beautiful combination of materials with a simple yet impactful aesthetic.
A restaurant or hotel you’d recommend for a memorable experience?
Les Coucoo Cabanes (especially the Grands Chênes site) for a total escape from everyday life.
What’s one unexpected item someone might find in your locker or on your desk?
Tactile paving studs in my locker, basically a collection of construction site relics… 😅
